EXISTENTIAL REALTY
We Take the "I" out of Reality
featuring the work of: MAZOZMA, R. Clint Colburn and John Harlan Norris
The Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center Gallery: April 14-May 7, 2016 Opening Reception: Thursday, April 14, 6-9pm
Closing Reception: Saturday, May 7, 6-9pm
Existential Realty combines the work of three artists who investigate the human form through alternative means. Seeking not to describe the likenesses of individuals by way of identifying features or characteristics, these artists view the human form as a space we inhabit; one which provides the opportunity for interior exploration, exterior reinvention, and a compendium of experiences that exist in a constant state of flux. As such, this space is best illuminated not through physical resemblance, but through experimentation, process, and revelation.
MAZOZMA is a visual/performance artist, musician, and writer based in Lexington, KY. Born in 1977 in Louisville, Turner has released several solo records over the past decade as well as co-founded the psychedelic rock groups Warmer Milks, Teal Grapefruit, CROSS, and Salad Influence. Ma uses his creative
impulses as means of self-care and metaphysical awareness with a focus on distorted portraits that display the inner workings of humanity in conjunction with psychological and spiritual realms. Turner has had his work shown at such venues as Institute 193 (Lexington, KY), The Sunview Luncheonette (Brooklyn, NY), Dreamland (Louisville, KY), James Eads How Memorial Cinema (Lexington, KY) and Carnegie Center (Lexington, KY). He has also had various writings published via Slogun Press (Cincinnati, OH) and Penny-Ante (Los Angeles, CA).
